So, I went to prom this weekend. But just like back in the mid-90’s, I went with a friend date rather than a guy! Some things apparently never change!
Also, my friend and I were pretty much the only two people there who didn’t:
a - follow the “Vegas” theme for this year’s event, (held at the University Club in Moline),
or
b- wear a glittery garment of some kind. So many women had absolutely gorgeous gowns! Even the dudes, or at least several of them, had sequined / shiny jackets.
I HAD planned to wear a black sequined shirt I bought for this exact occasion, but I couldn’t quite figure out the rest of the outfit, so I changed my mind at the last minute and put on a summertime jumpsuit I already owned, adding bling-y jewelry, purse and shoes from a prior New Year’s Eve outing (with the same friend).
We’re solo-income-household women and we wear what we can find from Goodwill and Stuff Etc.! But we were there, and we danced, dammit!
It turned out that people-watching and taking in all the different outfits/costumes was my favorite part of the night. So many long, gorgeous, sequined dresses. Shimmery sheaths and flowy gowns. There were two guys in blue and orange top hats and suits, who I think were in Dumb & Dumber costume? Two or three guys in jeans, dress shirts, and 10-gallon cowboy hats. Couples wore matching, Vegas-themed shirts or hats or vests. A few people had corsages.
Eventually I realized I should start asking people if I could take and post their pics. Everyone readily agreed—but these are just a paltry few! And they were hard to capture in a dark room, plus red lights flashing from the sound and light setup.
But I tried, so you could at least get an idea.
Hope you enjoy!

I got married at the University Club - I love that space! Looks like a fun time!
